However, the pandemic had other plans in mind which led to the cancelation and left all educators wondering what the future held. As we have seen firsthand, educators are resilient and innovative! With that in mind, IMSE is excited to present our first annual Literacy Summit as a virtual option.
Over the last year, IMSE and its community have gone to great lengths to provide educators and parents with all the necessary tools to help our students thrive in this new educational landscape.
Through innovation and determination, IMSE continues to help teachers navigate structured literacy in the virtual classroom to help every student learn to read.
With the 2021 Literacy Summit moving to a virtual format, we have worked extremely hard to ensure everyone who attends will walk away feeling educated, empowered, and invigorated to take what you’ve learned back into the classroom.
We are incredibly honored to have both Dr. David Kilpatrick and Dr. Anita Archer as the keynote speakers for this year’s event.
David A. Kilpatrick, Ph.D. is a professor of psychology for the State University of New York College at Cortland. He is a New York State certified school psychologist with 28 years of experience in schools. He has been teaching courses in learning disabilities and educational psychology since 1994. David is a reading researcher and the author of two books on reading, Essentials of Assessing, Preventing, and Overcoming Reading Difficulties, and Equipped for Reading Success, and is a co-editor of a third, Reading Development and Difficulties: Bridging the Gap Between Research and Practice.
Dr. Anita Archer serves as an educational consultant to state departments, county agencies, and school districts on explicit instruction and literacy instruction. She has taught elementary and middle school students and is the recipient of ten Outstanding Educator awards. Dr. Archer has served on the faculties of San Diego State University, the University of Washington, and the University of Oregon. She is internationally known for her presentations and publications on instructional procedures and literacy instruction and has co-authored numerous curriculum materials including Phonics for Reading ( Curriculum Associates), a three-level intervention program for intermediate students, and the REWARDS reading and writing intervention programs (Voyager/Sopris). In addition, Dr. Archer authored with Dr. Charles Hughes a best-selling textbook, Explicit Instruction: Effective and Efficient Teaching.

The Virtual Literacy Summit is not only for teachers! It is the perfect opportunity to learn about literacy development and what proper instruction looks like in the classroom. IMSE encourages school administrators, district leaders, parents, ELL teachers, and interventionists to register.
With the event being held online, it also gives you much more flexibility to attend. While it is our hope that everyone is able to tune in live, we understand the busy schedules and long days that educators are enduring.
To help combat that, everyone who registers will receive a recording of the full event in the days following. IMSE is also very excited to announce that everyone who attends will be entered into a drawing to receive a FREE IMSE training course ($1,275 value)! There will be multiple winners.
